PROTECTING YOUR SMALL DOG 1. Look before you sit - Your dog could be in your favorite chair and if you sit on it, serious injury or death could be the result. 2. Watch your step - Small dogs have really tiny bones and
if you step on them, something is going to break. 3. Don't leave them outside alone - A small dog is easy prey for large hawks and owls, as well as foxes, coyotes, and larger dogs in the neighborhood. Margo Rita, Tango Rae, and Dackory never go outside without a chaperone. Kaboodle is an indoor cat, and never goes outside. 4. Get thee to a Veterinarian - When a tiny dog is sick, vomiting and diarrhea can lead to dehydration and death within a very few hours. Don't wait until it is too late. 5. Kennels - Consider kenneling your dog when you are not at home. 6. Not for small children - Consider a larger and sturdier dog for you child. 7. Obesity is common - It is really easy to over feed them. Ask your Vet how much is healthy. Margo and Tango eat 10 grams each, twice a day, and Dackory eats 20 grams twice a day. Each meal is weighed on a postage scale and their weights are monitored closely. 8. Never, never hit your dog - Dogs don't learn from being hurt, they learn from approval and positive reinforcement. If it is necessary to correct a misbehaving dog, yell at them in a gruff voice, but don't hurt anything but feelings. |
